Samuel V. Scarpino is the Director of AI + Life Sciences and a Professor of the Practice in Health Sciences and Computer Science at Northeastern University. Sam also holds appointments in the Institute for Experiential AI, the Network Science Institute, and the Roux Institute. Prior to joining Northeastern, he was the Vice President of Pathogen Surveillance at The Rockefeller Foundation. Broadly, Sam is a complex systems scientist investigating questions at the intersection of network science and human behavior, whose work spans a broad range of topics, including: infectious disease modeling, forecasting in complex systems, genetic topology of disease, and decision making under uncertainty.
